Sunset Again!

This is a super quick post from Clearwater State Recreation Area where we have spent the last two days relaxing and soaking in the beautiful weather we have had while here. The temperatures have been situated perfectly in the upper 60s and low 70s and we have had partly sunny skies! The sunshine has been a very welcome change!

Clearwater River

This campground is set immediately alongside the spring-fed Clearwater River, and let us just tell you…the river is aptly named! It is crystal clear! It is known for its arctic grayling fishing so there have been a few fishermen come through and a small amount of boat traffic but it has been minimal, and since the recreation area is several miles off the Richardson Highway, there is no road noise. Even our fellow campers (all five of them) have been super quiet. Being here on a Friday night, we expected things to get more crowded and maybe a bit rowdy, but that has not at all happened! It has been a great place to rest and enjoy the quiet of Alaska!

The most notable occurrence from our time here is that we finally saw a beautiful sunset again! For months now, sunset has been so late that we haven’t been awake to witness it, and honestly, we got out of the habit of watching for it. It was a surprise, then, when we sat down to our dessert tonight (more blueberry crumble, still from those fresh blueberries) to look out the window and see the bright oranges and pinks of a quickly receding sunset. We threw on some shoes and high-tailed it out to watch! It was spectacular. We missed the peak by a few minutes, but it was still gorgeous! We will definitely be on the lookout again from now on. And maybe, just maybe (fingers and toes crossed) since it is getting dark earlier, we could hope for an Aurora Borealis show before we get too far south?

Until next time!
